Commercial soft landscaping

Soft landscaping covers the living and organic elements of a scheme — topsoil, turf, seeding, shrubs, hedges, trees and mulch — as distinct from hard landscaping, which covers paving, kerbs, walls, fencing and surfacing.

Wrights Landscapes Group is a specialist soft landscaping contractor. We do not self-deliver hard landscaping, which means the package we price is the package we install, and it is priced by people who install it every week rather than by a generalist passing it down the chain.

We price from the landscape architect's drawings and specification, producing a bill of quantities broken down by plot, area or phase so that it can be checked line by line against the drawings and valued straightforwardly each month.

Where site conditions or supplied materials differ from specification — topsoil grade against BS 3882, nursery stock sizes against BS 3936, tree pit construction against BS 8545, seed mix composition against the NBS clause — we identify it and price it before works commence rather than after. That is usually the difference between a landscape package that closes out cleanly and one that ends up in dispute at the end of the maintenance period.

Soft landscaping sits at the end of the programme and is therefore the package most exposed to slippage upstream and to planting seasons. We work to the principal contractor's programme, flag season-critical activities early — bare-root planting windows, turf laying in high summer, seeding cut-offs — and phase works plot by plot where a development is handing over progressively.
